Mindful Writing — Write the Way You Breathe

Mindful writing isn't a genre. It's an approach: write the way you'd breathe — present, unhurried, not trying to get somewhere with it.

What makes writing mindful

It's the opposite of writing to finish. You're not producing an entry; you're spending a few minutes paying attention on a page. The words are a byproduct of that attention, not the goal.

A simple practice

  • ·Open a quiet scene and do a few guided breaths first.
  • ·Write slowly. If you speed up, slow down.
  • ·Stay with one sensation, one thought, one image. Don't branch.
  • ·When the thought ends, stop. Don't pad it.
  • ·Notice that you stopped. That's the practice.

Why it's different from journaling

Journaling often looks back — what happened, what you felt. Mindful writing looks at — what's here, right now, in this sentence. Both are fine. This one is for when you want to be somewhere, not get somewhere.
